Amelia Underwriters is implementing improved communication standards across all underwriting departments to enhance the agent experience and reduce unnecessary delays. The goal is simple: provide faster responses, clearer expectations, and more consistent guidance across all product lines including Builders Risk, Vacant Property, Commercial Property, and Small Business placements.
Over the past year, agent feedback has highlighted several areas where improved clarity can significantly streamline the submission and quoting process. These include faster acknowledgement of submitted risks, clearer guidance on appetite, and better visibility into what underwriters need to review a risk efficiently.
What’s Changing?
Beginning this month, underwriters will follow updated internal service benchmarks to help agents move risks through the pipeline more smoothly:
- Faster submission acknowledgement
Agents will receive a quicker confirmation that a submission has been received and assigned. - Improved communication on appetite fit
Underwriters will provide more direct guidance when a risk falls outside appetite to help agents redirect business efficiently. - Clearer explanation of missing information
Instead of broad requests for “additional details,” underwriters will specify exactly what’s needed—such as occupancy, year built, project description, COPE details, or required photos. - More consistent turnaround times
While turnaround speed always depends on risk complexity, these internal standards help ensure more predictable timing.
Why This Matters to Agents
These improvements are designed to reduce back-and-forth communication, shorten quoting cycles, and save agents time, especially for frequently submitted risks like renovations, small commercial properties, and seasonal vacancies.
When agents receive clearer direction earlier in the process, they can set better expectations with insureds and avoid unnecessary delays.
What Agents Should Do
While no new requirements are being added, agents are encouraged to:
- Include complete property or project details when possible
- Continue submitting any photos that help clarify condition or scope
- Provide updated contact information for both agent and insured
- Note any time-sensitive deadlines in the submission email subject line
These small steps significantly improve speed and help underwriters provide cleaner, more competitive results.
